Boeing Australia is pitching the MQ-28 CCA that fired AIM-120 AMRAAM with the Meteor ramjet-powered BVRAAM at FIA2026 exhibition for the UK and Europe.
Boeing Australia is displaying the MQ-28 CCA with the Meteor BVRAAM in use by the UK and other European countries as a pitch towards a new market.
MQ-28 is the second unmanned combat aircraft to perform a BVRAAM firing, with the widely used AIM-120 AMRAAM.
Using Meteor, powered by a solid-fuel ramjet engine providing sustained and adjustable thrust, would arguably provide a long-range advantage compared to traditional rocket-powered BVRAAMs.
Boeing Australia is gradually introducing combat capabilities to MQ-28 that will initially carry missiles externally and various sensor/EW payloads at the nose section.
On the other hand, Boeing Australia plans to elevate MQ-28 to an unmanned fighter with the Block III iteration that will have a larger frame to support an internal bay (2x BVRAAM or 4x SDB) and a more potent onboard radar.
