Israel Develops Hand-Launched Missile for the U.S.

Israel-based aerospace company IAI will develop hand-launched missiles. The deal is inked with the United States Department of Defence (U.S. DoD). The "Point Blank" system is to be delivered under the contract.

The missile can be carried in a backpack of foot mobile units. Point Blank is designed and developed by IAI to provide a solution to the requirements from tactical units to battalion level. The system can attack various targets without support.Point Blank can take off or land vertically or be launched by hand. The solution is developed under the Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD) of the U.S. DoD. IAI will deliver the first prototypes and training support to the U.S. for operational tests and evaluation efforts in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23).Israel Develops Hand-Launched Missile for the U.S.The mini-missile system weighs about 6.8 kilograms and is 914 millimetres long. The platform can fly above 1,00 feet and can loiter in the air when necessary. Point Blank is equipped with electro-optical components to instantaneously collect Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) data from the field. The nature of the modern battlefield is shifting to asymmetrical contact more than ever. Because of this reason, field units require low-cost, expendable solutions due to sustainment concerns. Cold War School"s expensive ammunition is not economically suitable to use on small insurgent elements. In this line, many countries are developing solutions similar to the Point Blank.
