BMC Power will initiate Batu tank engine trials soon. The information came during the 5th Land Systems Seminar in Ankara.
Turkish company BMC Power is preparing for qualification tests of an indigenously developed Batu tank engine. Turkish Defence Industry Agency official made the relevant statement when answering a question about powerpack.
Turkiye attempted to acquire power packs from international manufacturers several times, but each attempt resulted in open or discreet sanctions. Turkiye initiated its own power pack development projects. The project is carried out under BMC Power’s responsibility and is planned to produce 1,500 HP output. Batu is a V12 turbocharged diesel engine and will have indigenous transmission and cooling equipment. The system is aimed to use on the Turkish indigenous main battle tank, Altay.
