Brazilian Navy sank its former aircraft carrier ex-NAe Sao Paulo in the Atlantic Ocean. French Navy’s Clemenceau-class carrier, originally known as Foch, entered service in 1963. The ship was retired in 2000 when the French Navy commissioned the Charles de Gaulle carrier. It was then transferred to Brazil and renamed Sao Paulo, with Brazil named as the ship’s “final user” in the bilateral agreement. In November 2000, Sao Paulo joined the Brazilian fleet.
