Türkiye -alongside Belgium, Croatia, France, Poland, Spain, and the UK- has signed a LOI to form a multi-national A400M transport fleet mirroring the MMF.
During the NATO Summit in Ankara, Türkiye joined a new initiative to form a multi-national A400M transport aircraft fleet alongside Belgium, Croatia, France, Poland, Spain, and the UK with the signing of an LOI. The new initiative replicates the structure of the Multi-National MRTT Fleet (MMF) for A330 to form a joint fleet that can respond to the needs of members upon need, especially when the individual fleet might not be able to carry the workload.
A400M, as the heaviest in the Turkish Air Force inventory, is an important part of Türkiye’s strategic airlift capabilities thanks to 37 tons of maximum payload, with which the turboprop transport aircraft can fly a distance of 3300 km.
Alongside being an operator, Türkiye possesses MRO (ASFAT) and engine maintenance (TEI) capabilities on the A400M.
Over the course of the past few years, Türkiye has made moves to expand its airlift fleet, with one example being the acquisition of ex-RAF C130Js from the UK, which will be delivered after overhaul work by Marshall Aerospace. The addition of the multi-national fleet initiative for A400M will contribute to these efforts alongside the new C130J.
