Rheinmetall Upgrades Skyguard 35mm Air Defence Systems

An international customer has commissioned Rheinmetall to modernise its gun-based 35mm anti-aircraft systems. The order also includes ammunition and other components for the modernised Skyguard batteries. Work will begin in 2023. The order value is in the low three-digit million euro range.

Rheinmetall upgrades the customer country's twin 35mm cannons to the most modern Oerlikon GDF009. These use airburst-capable AHEAD ammunition. This enables the armed forces of the customer country to combat a wide range of threats from the air - including small unmanned aerial systems. Rheinmetall Italia is managing the order.
