The Russian leader revealed that his country had developed a weapon that flies more than five times faster than those developed in the US. While addressing an energy forum, Putin said nowhere is under threat.
President Putin attended the Russian Energy Week, where the session moderator, CNBC News Anchor and International CorrespondentHadley Gamble mentioned hypersonic weapons flying at three times the speed of sound reportedly developed by Russia.“Weapons with a speed of Mach 3 or more are being developed in the United States. Our systems fly at a speed of over Mach 20. These are not just hypersonic, but intercontinental missiles and these are far more serious weapons than those you have just mentioned, and they are already in service,” Putin remarked. He reminded that similar systems are being developed in other countries, as high technology gets important and armies of the world will possess such systems soon.Putin added that Russia, with such weapon systems, Russia is in a better position than their main competitor, the US, in such systems for the first time. Putin stated that they are not trying to take advantage of it and that instead, they want to negotiate.Russia fired a Tsirkon missile from the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine and hit a test target in the Barents Sea in Russia's Arctic recently.The Tsirkon looks set to join Avangard hypersonic glide vehicles that were put into service in 2019 and the air-launched Kinzhal (Dagger) missiles in Russia's arsenal.
