Pakistan’s Chief of Army Visits China

General Asim Munir met with the vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, Zhang Youxia, who described the two countries’ cooperation as steady. “No matter how the international situation changes, China always prioritises Pakistan in its neighbourhood diplomacy,” Zhang said, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.

Munir arrived in China and went to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) headquarters, where he had a comprehensive conference with the PLA commander. According to Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry of the Pakistan Military’s Inter Service Public Relations, the conference focused on concerns about bilateral security and military cooperation.

Pakistan and China cooperate on many strategic issues, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This is a connectivity infrastructure project that connects China with the Middle East.

Pakistan had an agreement to buy 25 J-10 aircraft, of which only 12 so far have been received by Pakistan. The bilateral meeting comes when relations between China and India are tense.

China has recently shown its regional power by providing the Iranian-Saudi Arabian meetings.

The Imran Khan government, which was overthrown last year in April, was known for its close ties with China. It was speculated that the next government would have weaker relations with China and better with the USA.
