India Purchases 70 HTT-40 Aircraft from HAL

The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 1 March that the government approved the purchase of a total of 70 Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT)-40 aircraft from the state-owned company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The contract has an estimated value of $826.9m

The new contract also includes the necessary hardware and training systems, such as simulators, which are required for the job. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will receive the new aircraft in stages over the course of the next six years as they are delivered.

It is constructed with approximately 56 per cent of locally sourced equipment and systems. As a result of the indigenous production of a number of additional essential components and subsystems, this percentage is projected to reach 60 per cent in the near future.
