Greece’s Mysterious visit to Libya

Today in the morning, Hellenic Air Force Embraer ERJ-135LR left Elefsis Air Base near Athens, southbound. The aircraft entered Tripoli FIR. It was no longer trackable once it entered Libyan airspace. It is not known where the airship landed.

Around 16:45 CEST, the aircraft appeared on the radar again, this time flying northbound. The Embraer is landed in Elefsis around 18:00 CEST.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Tripoli on April 6 to meet with Libya’s interim political leadership.

Relations deteriorated in November 2019 to their lowest point in years when Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Turkey on the delimitation of maritime zones eastern Mediterranean. Greece responded by expelling the Libyan ambassador and approaching Khalifa Haftar, the Libyan National Army head based in Eastern Libya.
