Akıncı took off in the High Altitude and Long Endurance and Performance Test as part of the design verification activities. Akıncı UCAV, which has flown in the Medium Altitude- Long Endurance (MALE) class until today, has challenged the High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) class with this performance. Aircraft in this class are also called pseudo-satellite. The Heron 2 UAV of IAI from Israel flies at an altitude of 47 thousand feet with its 550 horsepower engine. At this altitude, the atmospheric conditions do not change, and the Line of Sight range increases. Although SATCOM controls the UAV, LOS is a backup system. Such UAVs are ideal for intelligence missions.
Akıncı travelled 7 thousand 507 km during 25 hours 46-minute-long flight. These data reveal that the UCAV does not take off to break the altitude record. Although long flight and high altitude data of similar UAVs are given together, these two do not happen simultaneously. For example, the UAV that reaches the highest altitude flies with less weight. The long-flying UAV flies at the optimum altitude without exerting any effort to gain altitude. Here, an altitude of 38 thousand feet is accompanied by 25 hours of flight. All information indicates that the UAV has taken off with a combat load as preparation for operational trial. The Akıncı must be expected to reach much higher altitudes in the coming days.
