The Dutch and Danish Ministries of Defence have signed a “collaborative donation” to deliver the Leopard 2A4 Main Battle Tank (MBT) to Ukraine.

The two countries will work together to deliver a total of 14 Leopard 2 tanks. The tanks are expected to be procured from the factory in the first quarter of 2024. This delivery will complement the 100 older Leopard 1A5 tanks being repaired by the Netherlands and Denmark for delivery to Ukraine along with Germany.

Netherlands and Denmark will share the cost of purchasing the Leopard 2A4 tanks worth 165 million euros.

The Netherlands will also contribute to purchasing 155 mm artillery ammunition. This was done by donating 130 million euros to the European Defence Agency (EDA) initiative.

Ukraine will receive the first of up to one hundred main combat tanks that are modelled after the Leopard 1A5 series. In February, a collaboration between Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark saw the delivery of Leopard 1 tanks to Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG), where the fleet would undergo maintenance, repairs, and upgrades before delivery.
