Turkish armoured vehicle manufacturer İzmir based Katmerciler announced an export deal to Africa. According to press release, Katmerciler is expecting an export deal worth of 39 million 450 thousand euro. The deal will include different types of armoured vehicles.
The delivery will take part as batches will be completed in 2022. The contract includes HIZIR 4x4 Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicle, ATEŞ - Armoured Border Security Vehicle, KHAN 4x4 Armoured Personnel Carrier. The agreement will mark Khan’s first export as well.
Katmerciler Deputy Chief Executive Officer Furkan Katmerci clarified a confusion. Referring to the news about Katmerciler to export armoured vehicles to Kenya, Katmerci said, the export deal is not with referred African country but to another country. We are proud to see our products entering to the inventory of friendly country.
Kenya based The Star newspaper had written that the Department of Defence is set to procure 118 Armoured Personnel Carriers from Turkey. The move is aimed at ensuring maximum survivability of its troops as they tackle the al Shabaab militia in Somalia.
Public Affairs Officer from Ministry of Defence Col Zipporah Kioko told the Star DoD is finalising the deal with a Turkish firm to bring in the 118 high-performance APCs.
The newspaper reported that three firms had applied for the tender but only the Turkish firm Katmerciler HIZIR met the user specifications. The two other firms are from South Africa and North America respectively.
