Danish Frigate Joins Operation “Guardian of Prosperity”
Denmark will join the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG) with a frigate in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Denmark plans to deploy Royal Danish Navy frigates, such as the Absalon class and Iver Huitfeldt class, which can transform from combat ships to hospital ships, demonstrating their versatility in multiple roles. The Iver Huitfeldt class is also equipped for air defence roles with standard missiles and the possibility of using Tomahawk cruise missiles, a development for the Royal Danish Navy.

Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said, “We are concerned about the serious situation taking place in the Red Sea, where unprovoked attacks against civilian shipping continue. It is crucial for Danish and international shipping traffic and the region’s development that safe navigation in the area is possible. Denmark already contributes to maritime security in the area, and the government wants to increase the contribution by deploying a Danish frigate. We will present a motion for a resolution on this to the Danish Parliament in the new year.”
