AKINCI UCAV Strikes With ASELFLIR-500 Electro-Optic

AKINCI hit ASELSAN’s ALBATROS target USV on the move using the ASELFLIR-500 electro-optical system. This marks the first time AKINCI has engaged a target using the new electro-optical system. ASELSAN is also developing the larger ASELFLIR-600 with higher performance, particularly for AKINCI and AKSUNGUR UCAVs.

ASELFLIR-500 is a successor to the CATS electro-optical system with significant improvements in weight and resolution for all cameras. The new electro-optical system offers a 4096x2880 HD Day Camera, 1280x720 HD IR and SWIR cameras, increased laser designation range of 35 km.

ASELFLIR-500 will also be used on Bayraktar TB3 naval UCAV, as stated by the President of the Defence Industry Agency, Professor Haluk Görgün.

The test includes another detail: the target USV was struck with ROKETSAN’s MAM-T munition, the heavy member of the MAM family with a range of 30+ km for UCAV platforms. The difference in the lethality of MAM-T compared to its brethren can be observed after the impact on the target. This marks another milestone, with MAM-T being demonstrated against small moving targets.

MAM-L was also dropped during the firing test. The lighter MAM-L has been frequently used against small moving targets, such as vehicles carrying high-value targets during counter-terrorism operations in Syria and Iraq, as well as Russian high-speed patrol boats during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
