Airbus has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chengdu city and Tarmac Aerosave to establish China's first sustainable aircraft "lifecycle" servicing centre. This agreement will include a wide variety of services, including aircraft parking and storage and maintenance, upgrades, conversions, disassembly, and recycling for numerous aircraft types.
A formal agreement to develop and frame this industrial collaboration is expected to be signed by the partners in mid-2022. The new centre is expected to be operational by the end of 2023, subject to appropriate governmental permissions.
The facility will provide sustainable solutions for managing the complete aircraft lifespan, including disassembly and recycling.
Tarmac Aerosave will provide the project with 15 years of experience in environmentally friendly aeroplane disposal. Satair, an Airbus company, will buy ageing aircraft, sell and distribute the resultant used components, completing the entire range of lifetime services. The structure will have a surface area of 690,000 square metres and a storage capacity of 125 aircraft.
