United Arab Emirates (UAE's) EDGE Group subsidiary Halcon showcased the full-scale model of Reach-S fixed-wing armed tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the Dubai Airshow 2021. The geometry of the Reach-S UAV is similar to that of the Turkish TB2 UAV.
The fixed-wing drone Reach-S has a take-off weight of 400kg and can carry a payload of up to 120kg, according to the company press release. It has a cruising speed of 80 knots and can reach an altitude of 19,000 feet. The drone’s wingspan is 10m and its length is 5.5m, featuring a three-bladed propeller with Rotax 912 engine that provides 24 hours endurance. Reach-S has a Line of Site communication technology that allows operating at 200 kilometres range.
The programme is understood to be at the initial level of the design phase. It is expected to take at least another year for the first flight.T
he UAV has two hard
points on either side of the wings. Behind the nose wheel is a
gimbal-stabilized EO/IR turret housed in the fuselage.
Halcon showed the model with four Desert Sting-16 (DS-16) precision-guided drop-launched ammunition under the wings, suggesting the primary intention of the UAV is to be used in surveillance and air to surface attack missions.
According to the company press release The ammunition has also similarities to Roketsan's MAM-L.
