The Turkish defence
industry delegation held meetings in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. This was the
5th Turkey-Nigeria Defence Industry Consultation Meeting with the attendance
of TUSAŞ, OTOKAR, Roketsan, BMC, Tais Shipyard, Katmerciler and ASELSAN. The
Turkish delegation held a meeting with Nigerian Defence Minister Bashir Salihi
Magashi and senior army commanders.
According to Mallam
Garba Shehu, an Advisor to Nigerian President Mohammed Buhari, “military
purchases” and “equipment production” issues would be discussed with the Turkish
delegation. According to Shehu, Nigeria’s possible purchases include assault rifles,
anti-material rifles, counter-terrorism equipment, armoured vehicles, UAVs and
vehicles. The Turkish delegation was also expected to meet with the Nigerian
national defence company Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).
Developments on the subject emerged with the sharing of the Nigerian Embassy of
Turkey in Abuja.
According to the
information obtained by TurDef, the delegation also made a series of contacts
with Kenya within the framework of the same visiting tour. The SSB had
previously made a similar visit to Uganda with a similar delegation.
