Vice Admiral and Chief of Naval Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo stated that the contract signing ceremony was another milestone achievement by the Nigerian Navy in her fleet renewal effort towards realizing her 2021-2030 Strategic Plan and expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The Offshore Patrol Vessels will carry out maritime interdiction, surveillance and special forces operations. The vessel is also fit for Anti Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Surface Warfare, Surface and Air Surveillance, Naval Gun Fire Support, Search and Rescue Operations, Execution of Intelligence Operation and Protection of Economic Activities.
The Strategic Plan, 2021-2030, is organized into nine areas, or “milestones”, as follows: Operations, Fleet Renewal, Logistics, Infrastructure, Human Resource Management and Administration, Concepts and Organization, Doctrine and Training, Information and Communications Technology and Inter-Agency and Sub-regional Cooperation.
DEARSAN Shipyard can build nine ships of various types simultaneously with its 126 m long skid, 15.341 m2 closed shipbuilding site, 15.870 m2 open area and 31.211m2 total area.

The Shipyard has undertaken the construction, fabrication, repair and modification of numerous ships, including the construction of 16 “Tuzla” Class Patrol Boats for the Turkish Navy. The DEARSAN shipyard developed the design of the 57-meter “Tuzla” Class Patrol Boats.
