Malaysia wants to acquire new wheeled Armored Personnel Carriers (APC) to replace the Malaysian Army’s German-made Condor 4×4s and Belgian-made SIBMAS 6×6 armoured vehicles, which Malaysia had assigned to its United Nations peacekeeping unit in Lebanon. It is known that 12 companies presented their products to the Malaysian army to replace the 24 Condor 4x4 wheeled APCs. Two Turkish companies, Otokar and FNSS, are competing in the tender.

Otokar presented its 4X4 solution Cobra II first time in 2014 at Kuala Lumpur DSA expo. Since then, the company has presented Arma 6x6 and Cobra II 4x4. The company brought its solutions to the recent expo DSA 2022 too. The vehicles are taken to the test range for further evaluation. On the other hand, FNSS has teamed with local company DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies (Deftech) to promote 4×4 and 6×6 Pars.  The country received 460 units built by the German company Hernschel Wehrtechnik GmbH in late 1981. The vehicles have been deployed in Lebanon since 2006 with the first peacekeeping contingent of the Malaysian army. Malaysia has 186 Sibmas and 316 Condor in the inventory.

The modular and protected hull design of ARMA 6x6 provides a multipurpose platform that integrates various types of mission equipment and/or weapon systems that meet the needs of modern armies. The independent suspension system is enhanced with a built-in Central Tyres Inflation System (CTIS), Run Flat Tires, and Anti-locking Brake System (ABS). Such systems improve ground mobility and ride comfort even over the roughest terrain. The vehicle’s mobility is further enhanced with longitudinal and transverse differential locks and the high power to weight ratio coupled with high ground clearance and approach/departure angles.

FNSS, on the other hand, has provided 8X8 AV-8 AENBCRV to the Malaysian army. The company exhibited the PARS 4x4 Anti-Tank Vehicle with ARC-T Remote Controlled Anti-Tank Turret and PARS III 6x6 with 12.7 mm SANCAK Remote Controlled Turret at DSA 2022. The PARS III 6x6 combat weight is 25,000 kg and is powered by a diesel engine.
The PARS 4x4 has a 25 hp/ton power-to-weight ratio, a low silhouette and amphibious capabilities.

Korean, Canadian and Indonesian armoured vehicle makers are also entering the competition.
