Turkish Defence Ministry announced that a KT-1 aircraft crashed into the sea during a training flight near the coastal town Foça, İzmir.


Turkey acquired KT-1 Woongbi single-engine turboprop, basic training aircraft. From Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) and renamed KT-1T according to Turkish Air Force Requirements.

The training aircraft took off from the 2nd main airbase in İzmir, crashed due to engine malfunction. Two pilots aboard were rescued. One pilot ejected successfully in his Martin Baker T16LF Ejection Seat. He was rescued by the coastguard. Other pilot landed aircraft into the sea and rescued from local fishermen.
