The First Serial Production Eitan 8X8 Panzer Has Been Produced
The Israeli Ministry of Defence announced that the first series production of the new Eitan armoured personnel carrier has begun. The 8X8 Panzer is intended to replace the M113 armoured personnel carriers still in use by the Israeli army.
The Eitan is equipped with an MTU 890 turbo diesel engine with a maximum power of 750 Hp and uses an Allison 4800 SP automatic transmission.
The vehicle is protected by a system that includes a classic passive combined armour module and an electronic active, passive system. Eitan’s level of ballistic protection on the STANAG 4569 level IV is resistant to fire from 14.5 mm calibre guns.
The APC will have a remote-controlled weapon module (RCWS) equipped with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun on the Eitan.
The APC version is manned by three personnel consisting of a commander, driver and gunner plus eight armed soldiers.
The IFV variant will be equipped with an unmanned turret with a 30mm or 40mm automatic cannon and a Spike anti-tank missile launcher.
The head of the Department of Armoured Vehicles of the Ministry of Defense of Israel (MANTAK), Brigadier General of the Reserve Guy Paglin, said at the roll-out ceremony: “The Eitan project was born as a withdrawal from Operation Tsuk Eitan (Gaza Strip in 2014). We completed the development and started the serial production of armoured personnel carriers a few months ago. “
