Sweden and Finland Announce their Wish to Join NATO

Following the Finnish government’s decision to apply for NATO Membership, the Swedish government has followed the same route.

Finnish Member of Parliament, Elina Valtonen, declared “Time is Now” for Finland to join Nato. The Parliament will vote for the decision.
Becoming a member would bring NATO’s military alliance to Finland’s 830-mile border with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine as the country wanted to join NATO.
Sweden’s Social Democrat minority government decided to apply for NATO membership today. “There is a broad majority in Sweden’s parliament for joining NATO,” Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said following a debate on security policy in Parliament. “The best thing for Sweden and the Swedish population is to join NATO.”
