The Swiss Air Force (SUI) has completed the modernisation of the Cougar helicopters. The modernisation was carried out by the technology partner of the Swiss Armed Forces company, RUAG. The Cougar helicopter building and modernisation program, running for eight years, was completed on 5 May. Swiss state-owned RUAG company has delivered its ninth and last upgraded Cougar transport helicopter to the Swiss Air Force. With this modernisation, the aircraft's life cycle is also extended by 15 years.

In December 2014, the company was commissioned to modernise the Swiss Cougar helicopter fleet until 2035. The development of the modernisation package lasted until 2017.

RUAG modernised the fleet of TH98 Cougars. The value retention goal was to harmonise the Super Puma and Cougar transport helicopters. This will allow for more consistent and streamlined operational procedures and training.

The Swiss Air Force has operated the Cougar since 2001. Switzerland received twelve helicopters, ten of which were assembled at RUAG. This model is used in Switzerland for transport tasks, rescue missions and disaster relief.
