At the 10th Naval Systems Seminar, STM Defence declared that the Shallow Water Combat Submersible (SWCB) STM 500 design is complete, and the company plans to begin manufacturing by 2022. STM will fund the project with its own funds. For the time being, there is no customer for the project.


According to STM, the building of one submersible would take 48 months. It is hoped that by the end of 72 months, the full project will be ready for delivery.

According to the information shared at the seminar, the STM 500 SWCB will perform Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Shallow Water Operations, Submarine Warfare, Special Operations Missions, Mine Warfare, Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Surveillance (ISR) missions. STM 500, which is said to have been designed under the class standards. It will be 550 tonnes in weight, 42 metres long, and have a range of almost 4500 nautical miles.
