Presidency of Defence Industries has started the Mete gun Project to provide a light and effective weapon to security units. The presidency signed contracts with two different companies within the framework of the project. Samsun Yurt Savunma produces "TP9 SF Mete" pistols, and Sarsılmaz Silah Sanayi AS produces "SAR9 Mete" pistols.
The two companies are
expected to produce more than 280 thousand Mete pistols in total. Land forces,
gendarmerie and security personnel use these weapons as duty weapons.
About three months
ago, a police officer was injured in the face at training shootings with his
pistol. The internal mechanism of the gun had broken the rear slide plate cover
of the gun and lodged just below the officer’s eye. There is no announcement on
the security website regarding the issue.
