Problems with the propulsion systems of Russia continue. The country is experiencing issues with engines, especially gas turbine power plants.


Russia published information about gas turbine power plant issues. The country is developing a new turboshaft engine for Mi-26 (NATO Reporting Name: Halo) heavy-lift helicopters. The new system will be based on PD-8 turbofans developed for Be-200 and SSJ-NEW airliners.

Russia is experiencing issues with gas turbine propulsion systems after the annexation of Crimea. It is known that the Russian Armed Forces are having problems flying Ukrainian systems-powered aircraft and gas turbine propulsion of ships. Ukraine was the biggest provider of marine gas turbine solutions and aircraft jet-based engines. Following Russia’s annexation of Crimea, Kyiv halted all kinds of deliveries to Moscow and cancelled contracts.
