The Imran Khan-led Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Council (ECC) gave its nod to import cotton and cotton yarn from India till June 30, 2021. Approval for sugar imports is also expected soon.

The proposal was presented before the top committee for approval at a meeting convened by the country’s commerce ministry officials. The approval comes amidst a renewed push for peace between the two countries.

Due to the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir conflict, the country had suspended bilateral trade with India on August 9, 2019.

India, however, has not yet made any official response and has so far shown only passive interest in Pakistan’s overtures to resume trade.
