Nigeria Approved Budget for T129 Atak

Nigeria, spending vast amounts of money for defence due to the Boko Haram insurgency threat, decided to acquire Turkish Aerospace (TUSAŞ) T129 Atak attack helicopters from Turkiye. In the scope of this step, an additional budget proposal submitted by the Nigerian President; has been approved.



Transfer of the budget will proceed in 2023 to acquire six T129 helicopters. Turkiye and Nigeria inked a Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement in October 2021. This procurement is also within the scope of the 2021 agreement.

Nigeria is a patchwork of distinctive regions, including plains, swamps, deserts, mountains, and steamy jungles. Boko Haram is an Islamic terrorist organisation based in northeastern Nigeria. T-129’s Turkiye performance set an example to Nigeria’s struggle against Boko Haram.
