Senator of Maryland from the Democrat Party submitted an amendment to the bill H.R. 7900, which authorises appropriations for the fiscal year 2023 for military activities of the Department of Defence, for military construction, and for defence activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe military personnel strengths for such fiscal year, and other purposes.
The amendment proposes a limitation on the transfer of f-16
aircraft to Turkiye. It limits Turkish Air Force actions as concrete steps would
be taken to ensure that F-16s would not be used by Turkiye “for repeated unauthorised
territorial overflights of Greece or military operations against United States
allies, including the Syrian Democratic Forces, in the fight against ISIS.”
Senator Hollen’s proposal would demand Turkiye not to take any action against Greece
or the SDF/YPG.
Senator also adds time conditions to the acquisition. It says
that the “transfer of new F-16 aircraft or F-16 upgrade technology or modernisation
kits described in that subsection may not be carried out before the date on which
Turkiye ratifies the accession of Sweden and Finland to the North Atlantic
Treaty Organisation.”
