The Presidency
initiated the project in 2016. Two companies provide their solutions. Samsun
Yurt Savunma (SYS) provides CANiK TP9
METE and Sarsılmaz Sar9. The project
aims to acquire 290 thousand pistols, where Sarsılmaz will provide 180 thousand
and SYS remaining 100 thousand. A Sarsılmaz SAR9 pistol was involved in an
incident last year where a policeman was wounded. The gun has undergone some
alterations to prevent the accident re-occur.
The Presidency did not
declare how many pistols were delivered to security forces.
