According to local media reports, the first units will be acquired to address the immediate requirement, and later more units will be acquired. Indian Defence Ministry has extended the date for submission of bids for this requirement until June this year. It is believed the extension is based on the request of an Indian Public sector company that is in the process of finalizing a joint venture with a German company Rheinmetall.

The German company Rheinmetall has already offered the Skyshield Air Defence Gun system to India under the Make in India initiative, and they have offered to tie up with Public Sector Giant BHEL.
