Akash
Prime, is a new version of India’s Akash medium-range mobile surface-to-air
missile system developed by the DRDO and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics
Limited.
The
missile intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target that mimicked an
enemy aircraft in its maiden flight test at integrated Test Range (ITR).
Compared
to the existing Akash System, Akash Prime has an indigenous active Radio
Frequency (RF) seeker for increased accuracy. At higher altitudes, the missile
performs more reliably in low-temperature environments. For the current flight
test, a modified ground system of the existing Akash weapon system was used.
The missile trajectory and flight parameters were monitored by ITR range
stations, including Radars, Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), and
Telemetry stations.
