According to the news outlet, a limited number of Rafael Spike NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) missiles have been ordered, while a larger quantity of the munition will be manufactured locally.
The missile can target armoured vehicles, mobile air defences and command
and control posts.
A Spike-equipped helicopter, according to the outlet, can take out a
target from a standoff distance of 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) and be equipped
with a variety of warheads for different battlefield scenarios.
The missile's electro-optical seeker has a dual sensor, allowing it to engage the target on any day or in adverse weather conditions.
Furthermore, the weapon's seeker and wireless data link provide video
imagery to the operator throughout the flight, allowing for a mission abort or
change in mid-flight.
On the other hand, The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to cancel
plans to buy further Mi-17 V5 helicopters from Russia two weeks ago following
the Indian – US 2+2 ministerial meeting.
