The 101 Squadron is the second IAF squadron to be equipped with Rafale aircraft. On May 1, 1949, the squadron was formed at Palam and had operated Harvard, Spitfire, Vampire, Su-7 and MiG-21M aircraft in the past.
The first squadron of Rafale has started patrolling the borders with
China in eastern Ladakh and Pakistan border.
In 2016, India signed an inter-governmental agreement with France to
procure 36 Rafale jets at Rs 59,000 crore.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had in February said the country would
have the entire fleet of fighter aircraft by April 2022.
