Dirk Hoke, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, spoke at the French Senate today about the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).

According to Airbus tweets, Hoke said, “FCAS is a historic opportunity for Europe, and we cannot let it pass. I am confident that France, Germany and Spain will jointly succeed.

A lot of work has been done in a record short time by the states and manufacturers. We are nearly there and look for convergence very soon on the next-generation fighter. Let’s make the best team together. We are stronger now with Spain on-board. You have to take the best skills from where they are. Choosing the best athlete is good, but there are areas where we both have excellent know-how. Cooperation includes compromise. Each industrial partner will contribute with its experience through skills developed over decades, participate in decision-making while protecting the programme’s progress and maintain its know-how. We are very close to an agreement. It must guarantee both efficiency and cooperation between the partners. This is our responsibility towards each of our countries and Europe. There is no plan b.  Plan b is FCAS, and any other solution would be much less favourable for everyone.
