The £3 billion aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales departed
from Portsmouth last week to perform some diplomatic visits and Westlant22 military
exercises off the US coast. The ship, however, broke down soon after the
departure near the Isle of Wight.
HMS Queen Elizabeth’s crew were notified earlier this month that they would sail to the US to replace HMS Prince of Wales’ duty.
On Saturday, HMS Prince of Wales returned to Portsmouth
Naval Base. It is officially stated that there was significant damage to the
shaft and the propeller. The £3 billion aircraft carrier will require repairs,
which could be performed in Rosyth, Scotland, at drydocks.
