Indian Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) launched on November 26, 2022, the third of four Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Projects, "Ikshak" to the Indian Navy, at Kattupalli, Chennai. The contract for building four SVL ships was signed on October 30 2018, for a total cost of Rs 2435 Cr.

The four ships, when completed, will replace the Indian Navy's Sandhayak-class survey ships. The 110m-long and 16m-wide SVL are outfitted with cutting-edge hydrographic equipment that will aid in collecting oceanographic/geophysical data for defence and civil applications.
