The new ship is being built under the FLOTLOG (Flotte Logistique) programme, which OCCAR is leading on behalf of the French Defence Procurement Agency (Direction Générale De L’armement/ DGA) and the Italian Directorate of Naval Armaments (NAVARM). FLOTLOG is being carried out as part of the French-Italian collaboration.
The Jacques Chevallier-class replenishment ships will be used for two major missions; military operations and civilian rescue missions. The multi-mission ships can also resupply other naval vessels at sea with aviation fuel, food, water, ammunition, and spare parts.
