So far, one Southeast Asian country has purchased BrahMos
missiles from India, namely the Philippines.
In January 2022, Manila signed a $375 million deal to
procure the BrahMos land-based anti-ship missile. Meanwhile, negotiations
regarding the BrahMos missile have been going on for a long time with
Indonesia.
This is one of the agendas of the Indonesian Minister of Defense during his visit to India in July 2020.
Regarding the BrahMos missile, India has tested a
surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile variant in the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands. The shooting took place on November 24, 2020. The surface-to-surface
version of the BrahMos missile is operated by the Indian Army (IA).
This new missile has a cruising range of up to 400 km, an
increase from the initial version, which was only 290 km. The missile's speed
is in the range of Mach 2.8 or almost three times the speed of sound.
India has deployed many BrahMos missiles and other key assets
to several strategic locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with
China in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
Air and sea versions of the BrahMos were launched in October
2020.
On October 18 2020, the naval version of the BrahMos missile was also tested from an Indian Navy (IN) stealth destroyer in the Arabian Sea.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on October 30 tested
the airborne version of the BrahMos missile from the Su-30MKI fighter in the
Bay of Bengal.
The IAF has integrated the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile
on more than 40 of its Su-30MKI fighter jets.
