Turkish Defence Company FNSS is attending Indo Defence Expo and Forum 2022 in Jakarta. FNSS exhibits the Marine Assault Vehicle (MAV) with CAKA Remote Weapon Station (RWS), purposely designed for MAV.

KAPLAN MT (HARIMAU), developed jointly by FNSS and PT Pindad as part of a Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement signed between Turkiye and Indonesia, participated in the Military Live Demonstration that takes place at the outdoor area of the Expo.

MAV is FNSS's most recent amphibious vehicle, designed to meet amphibious operational requirements. These armoured vehicles are launched from landing helicopter docks (LHD) during the beach landing phase of an amphibious operation and can quickly cover the distance between the vessel and the shore. The vehicle is called ZAHA in Turkiye and exhibited as Marinir in Indonesia.

The MAV reaches a speed of 7 knots in the water and 70 km/h speed on the land. The MAV firepower is provided by the purposely designed CAKA dual remote-controlled turret that can be armed with a 12.7 mm MG and a 40 mm AGL. MAV is designed to support dual operations based on their mission requirements; armoured amphibious assault vehicles must ensure capabilities at sea and on land. Compared to similar systems, the MAV provides soma advantages in the number of transported personnel, ballistic and mine protection levels, new generation remote-controlled turret and performances on land and afloat.

In addition to MAV, KAPLAN MT, which was developed within the scope of the project signed between the Turkish Defence Industry Agency (SSB) and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence with an interstate agreement, takes place in the live demonstration of the Indonesian Army, in the open area of the Expo. In the KAPLAN MT Project scope, FNSS completed the production of the first batch of vehicles with the serial production configuration. Ten tank platforms are manufactured in FNSS facilities before being shipped to Indonesia for turret assembly.

The parts and subsystems for producing the remaining eight vehicles were exported to Indonesia as knock-down kits and delivered to FNSS’ partner PT Pindad. Production of these 18 vehicles is expected to be completed by the first half of 2023. The new generation KAPLAN MT is the sole and exclusive modern Medium Weight Tank designed with a rear powerpack and not a conversion of a variant from an existing IFV.

Its lowest silhouette and highest power-to-weight ratio in its class and its platform are optimised for weight and mobility performance. The vehicle’s design architecture provides battlefield survivability, including ballistic and mine protection systems and adequate firepower, ensuring near-real-time response against most battlefield threats. The KAPLAN MT project stands out because it is Turkiye’s first export project in the Tank Class. The project highlights the export experience and the continuation of the FNSS technology transfer model as the project’s design perfection studies were completed quickly, and the platform production was completed within the scope of the planned calendar.
