Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) has built Turkey’s first close air defence heavy machine gun at 12.7 calibres. SYS is known for its small arm Canik.


The company developed a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun Canik M2 QCB (Quick Change Barrel), for air defence. General Manager of SYS, C. Utku Aral, stated that they were working on the anti-aircraft gun since 2012. Aral said they had developed the best 12.7 mm heavy machine gun in terms of the rate of fire. Aral indicated that they started to receive a pre-order for the gun. He underlined that they can produce 1500 guns per year and what to export %60 of it. Aral underlined that the gun has potential in Africa, South East Asia. “There are only four companies that can produce this weapon. We are happy to state that the fifth will be a Turkish company.

The gun is called Canik M2 QCB. M2 symbolises Browning’s M2 machine gun. A heavy machine gun designed toward the end of World War I by John Browning. It is effective against infantry, unarmoured or lightly armoured vehicles and boats, light fortifications, and low-flying aircraft. The Browning .50 calibre machine gun has been used extensively as a vehicle weapon for aircraft armament by the United States from the 1930s to the present.

It is known that Mechanical and Chemical Industry Incorporated Company develops an indigenous 12.7 machine gun for general purpose.
