Berlin to deliver COBRA to Ukraine
The German federal government plans to hand over the Cobra (Counter Battery Radar) to Ukraine. In addition, Ukraine is to get high-tech radars that the Bundeswehr does not even have. According to Die Welt news, Berlin wants to send a COBRA radar to Ukraine to detect Russia’s shots. The Radar will increase the sensitivity of the 155mm Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers’ countershots.

According to the newspaper, Ukraine requests 40 COBRA from Germany. However, there are only 19 COBRAs in the Bundeswehr inventory.

COBRA is a mobile 3-D Phased Array Radar based on a wheeled chassis for enemy field artillery acquisition. It is designed to detect small cross-section targets across the battlefield thanks to its AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar. With a detection range up to 100 km, COBRA may classify ammunition types and firing modes. More than 40 six-gun batteries can be located and reported to higher command in less than two minutes.
