Last week, President Demir attended the "Antalya Demokrasi Forum" and spoke to the press about recent developments. President Demir said that the ROK delivered the engine to Turkey.” There are tests conducted on the engine. We are waiting for May. We plan to see the Altay prototype in may. There is no delay on that process.”
BMC signed a deal with ROK’s Doosan Group and S&T Dynamics” to purchase a power pack including both the engine and transmission for the tank.
The Altay project began in 2007 and faced delays due to its power pack.
In 2019, BMC started negotiations with Doosan Group and S&T Dynamics for Altay’s engine and transmission. BMC’s company BMC Power is also developing a 1,500 horsepower V12 engine called Batu which could eventually replace the Korean powerpack on Altay and even be uprated to 1,800 horsepower.
In the meantime, the Altay is revised with new armour and active defence systems.
