Poland continues to armament activities. Polish Minister of Defence Marius Blaszczak has announced an agreement for additional M1 Abrams procurement as well as armoured logistics and support vehicles.



Minister published information about the deal. Poland will acquire 116 additional M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks. The contract also includes 12 M88A2 HERCULES armoured recovery vehicles, eight M1074 Joint Assault Bridge Systems, six M577 Command Vehicles and 26 HMMWV mounted Next Generation Shop, Equipment, Contact and Maintenance Vehicles (NG SECM). Deal consisting of training and logistics support package as well. Poland will take delivery of a significant amount of modern ammunition, training rounds and other multi-purpose projectiles. The cost of the agreement is announced as USD 1.4 billion.

Poland is restructuring its army and investing large budgets in modern equipment acquisition. Polish Army heavily used Soviet-era tanks before. Logistics support and bridge layer procurement also shows that the country is aiming to become an assault force rather than a defender army. In this line, it can be said that Warsaw is trying to become the spearhead of NATO in the east. Poland's Government also published that the country would like to become the most powerful armed forces in their region before.
